Depending on your requirements and the environment where the steel plate is to be used, it may be a good idea to have it processed before delivery.At PN Steel A/S, we have an extensive network and long-standing collaborations with several service companies, who can, for example, shot blast and shop prime, figure cut, bend or roll the steel before it is delivered to you.
Oxygen cutting is a fast and cost-efficient cutting technique, leaving a clean cut, even in very thick steel plates (PL 10-300 mm). We offer beveling and form cutting directly on the cutting machines. When required, we carry out finishing, consisting of semi-machined edge preparations and possible subsequent grinding.

For thinner plates, we usually apply high-speed plasma cutting, which results in exceptionally high cutting quality (PL 5-30 mm). Plasma cutting is often preferable for thinner steel plates because the enormous concentration of energy in the arc and the rapid cutting speed result in a minimal heat effect on the material surrounding the cutting area. For this reason, plasma cutting is a fast and efficient technique which results in a very high cutting quality.

We have accrued many years’ experience in edge milling heavy steel plates. In addition to standard edge preparations (I, V, Y and X bevels), PN Steel offers a number of specialized edge designs that enable an optimized welding process, which takes less time and uses less filler material – with reduced costs for the customer as a result.
For precision machining and advanced edge designs, we use a unique edge milling machine with fully automated loading and unloading capacity for large format steel plates. The milling machine has an automatic tool shift and a corresponding automated vacuum crane for quick replacement of plates.
The fully automated edge milling machine finishes each of the four edges of the plate individually.

PN Steel offers the welding together of plates. This service is usually required when the customer need heavy steel plates that are either heavier, wider or longer than a steel rolling mill can produce.
We offer to weld two half-length sizes plates together to a full-length size plate, when the customer requires plate weights that exceed what a rolling mill physically can produce (As an example plate unit weight >25 MT).
Other example, we perform longitudinal welding of steel plates, producing plate width of 4,5 meters.
The welding is performed by professional, authorized welders and typically undergoes a 100% NDT weld inspection. Everything is documented in welding and NDT reports, so the customer receives professional documentation with the delivery of the plate.
As a natural part of our supplies for tank building, PN Steel performs the bending of shells for tank building. Tank shells are typically rolled in a diameter of 15-100 meters. PN Steel has several options for rolling in widths and thicknesses, typically allowing us to offer complete tank projects.
Together with the bended shells, we providetransport cradles in which the plates are transported. This way, the tank plates are delivered in the correct form straight to the construction site for direct installation.
In many cases, it makes sense for the customer to have the steel plates shot blasted and shop primed before delivery. Shot blasting effectively removes any rust and mill scales from the surface to give you the optimal surface for your further processing.
If you choose to have the steel plates shop primed, a 15-25 µm primer is applied to the surface immediately after shot blasting, which is then tempered to provide optimal protection against rust in the subsequent weeks/months.
